Saturn, LLC is a subsidiary of General Motors Company, established on 7 January 1985 in response to the success of the Japanese and German imports of small cars in the United States. As a "different kind of car company," Saturn operated outside of the superstructure of GM for a while, with its own assembly plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee, unique models, and a network of independent retailers.
